Anyone for tennis

Having finally got over the shock of being back at work after a long festive break it's time to start blogging again. My new year's resolution is to be far more active on here, though like all new year's resolutions it'll probably be broken by Easter!

We arrived back in Qatar from the festive break just in time to catch the last two days of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open men's tennis tournament - the first tournament of the 2008 ATP season. As tickets were free it would've been rude not to go!

We saw Andy Murray go one better than last year's runner up, beating top seed Nikolay Davydenko in the semi-final on the first day we attended, then beating unseeded Stanislas Wawrinka in the final the following day.

His prize (other than the points and the money) was a golden falcon and a golden sword! Surely some of the best trophies ever!

This was supposed to be the perfect warm-up for Murray going into the Australian Open currently underway in Melbourne, bumping him up to 9th seed for the tournament. Unfortunately that didn't seem to be the case as he crashed out in the first round to unseeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
