Weather
You can tell the weather has become more pleasant over the last month or so (30ish degrees during the day, 20ish at night) because more and more things have been happening out and about in Doha. A couple of weeks after the French planes (see the last post) we were treated to the Red Arrows doing pretty much the same thing;
and in between these two air displays was the Doha leg of the Class 1 Powerboat Grand Prix;
followed by the F1 World Powerboat Championship the following week (which was affected by the wind as you can see from the video below!);
We've been trying to make the most of this nice weather by walking and running along the Corniche again, getting back up to the golf club, and eating out in some of the outdoor waterfront restaurants in the hotels.
Over the last week it's actually started to get a bit too chilly, especially when the wind is blowing, so some days the usual shorts and t-shirts have made way for jeans, t-shirts and light jumpers.
So far the heavier than usual rain we saw this time last year hasn't appeared, with only a few very light showers reported in the odd place or two. But we are regularly seeing clouds in the sky so it's only a matter of time before it gets wet, and we often see fog in the mornings;
It wasn't cold enough to stop us chartering a boat to nearby Banana Island last Saturday, with El's parents who were visiting for the weekend, and spend an hour or so swimming in the sea;
There's something nice about being able to swim in the sea on December 1st without freezing to death!

I saw some confused and scared doves flying scattered near my window - it was bad feeling hearing those planes ..but it was not the first time . Things like that happen in Doha from time to time ..
Banana island ? Where is that ? How to get there and what to do there ?

Alma - Banana Island is not far from Doha Bay. You can see it if you click here - the banana shaped island on the right of the screen.
There's not much to do there except chill out and swim. The island is tiny and the sand isn't brilliant, but it's nice to go there and get away from the city (though you can still see the city from there!).
You can get there by chartering a boat. Last time we went with the guy recommended by the Sheraton hotel. Give them a ring for the details.
The first time we went with the InterCon hotel, but when we called them the second time they said they'd stopped doing it for insurance reasons.
